Concerns started to show as Portsmouth had a lethargic start to warm up, compared to the Haslemere side who looked ready for the battle ahead.
The first half started strong for Portsmouth with Charlie Boswell showing everyone how to sneak the ball past the keeper for an early first goal. Shortly after the first goal, Portsmouth were awake and ready for more, with a clean through ball down the middle to find Callum Gaskin, he turns and picks out an eager Luke, who smashes the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Haslemere were shocked by the cool/calm goals from Portsmouth and were ready to bounce back making it 2-1. Just before half time Portsmouth had another strong attack from the midfield with Luke managing to spin around two defenders and placing an accurate pass towards the goal. As the keeper comes to clear the ball, Boswell shows him a magic trick by stealing the ball from his feet and placing it at the far post for yet another goal.
Half time 3-1 Portsmouth.
During the half time, Portsmouth felt confident that the game was theirs for the win. Portsmouth had Ivan Boswell and Chris Wimshurst, who had studied Haslemeres weaknesses.
The second half started slow with Haslemere seemingly finding their feet within the game and amending their weaknesses leaving no gaps and unmarked players. Portsmouth defence worked hard to keep the Haslemere attacks away but unfortunately Haslemere managed to find the goal creating two goals shortly after each other, 3-3.
Now the game started getting intense with both teams putting in a lot of work and wanting to prove they were the better side. At the same time the umpires eyes started to wind down. Towards the end of the second half Portsmouth were determined to finish Haslemere after their comeback and found themselves on yet another attack. The ball gets smashed towards the Haslemere goal, where Gaskin pinches the ball from the Haslemere goal keeper who’s now on the floor and sets up for a flick towards the goal. In comes an incredible miss or some may say a home run as the ball gets flicked outside the grounds after having an open goal to win the game.
With minutes to go Portsmouth didn’t let the not so near miss deter them and found themselves on yet another attack. This time Lee Harris found himself with a one on one with the keeper. As Harris turns to create some space, the Haslemere keeper had flash backs to Jon Farms rugby style tackle from the first half and decides to return the favour. He smashed into the back of Harris trapping his leg and loosing his helmet at the same time causing Lee to let out an agonising sound of pain. On comes Wimshurst with the med bag to help out Lee. As Chris is attending to Lee he over hears the umpires discussing how it was ‘a clean tackle’ at this point Chris was ready to take them both to Specsavers personally.
Game ends 3-3.
MOTM was Charlie Boswell
DOTD was Callum Gaskin for the aerial over the bar.
