The away fixture involved the awaited return of Pete Hayward, Matty Hayward and Stu Avery after their trip to the land down under.
Taking on board the coaching points from gaffer Alf Wimshurst and the inside man Paul ‘Wally’ Wallis, Portsmouth prepared to play an intense and tough game of hockey.
Utilising smart movement, Luke Parsons moved the Chichester players disrupting their shape. This left gaps either out wide of high for the fullbacks or forwards to utilise. And this utilisation allowed Portsmouth to encroach on the Chichester ‘D’ unfortunately no solid chances were made.
Until an out of the ordinary forward pass from Chris Butler on the ‘25’ found itself rolling its way onto the keepers feet. But Daniel ‘Kempy’ Kemp slid infront of the keeper and tipped it round the padded man into the back of the goal.

With Portsmouth now in-front, the upperclass of Chichester tried to fight their way back into the game. Earning themselves a short corner, a straight drag flick from the top of the ‘D’ barrelled towards the bottom left corner. Archie Chapman-Sheath was actually awake this week and the Portsmouth keeper got the tip of his right foot to the ball stopping the boys from Eton from scoring.
Hayden Farmer, the spiky headed prodigy at left half made some lovely passes nearly earning Portsmouth their second goal of the game but it didn’t come before the umpire’s halftime whistle.

Portsmouth found themselves on the back foot at the start of the second half due to a massive aerial chuck right from the Chichester pushback.
A counter attack from Portsmouth saw Mr Bean Bollom play a long ball , that was so long it reflected his lankiness, down the right sideline. Kempy got himself on the other end of the pass where he saw the inside ball to Stu. Teasing the keeper with the ball, Avery drew him out leaving Kempy free to the right, where the ball was squared to him and finely put away with a diving reverse tomahawk. At this rate Portsmouth HC might lose Kempy to the GB Olympics team to replace Tom Daley.

Another promising counter attack was cut short as Pete Wiles blasted a pass to TomBos that ended up going off the pitch miles in-front of him.
Avery was through 1 on 1 with the Chichester keeper, reminiscent of last years fixture against Chichester, Stu attempted an outrageous lob shot but unlike last year the Chichester defender got back in time to stop the ball crossing the line after nearly putting it in himself.
Some defensive work by the Pompey skipper, led to him sweeping up a loose ball in ‘D’ but this found himself being closed in by some Chichester players. This is not to Butler’s liking as he doesn’t like people invading his personal space, subsequently he flicked the ball into the chest of the space invader and still somehow emerged from the altercation with a free hit.
A Portsmouth attack saw some great offensive hockey resulting in the seaside town earning themselves a short corner. When they took the short corner, they decided to slip the ball left to Stu, who has a lot of catching up to do in terms of top goalscorer, however Avery thought he’d make it a bit harder for himself as he missed the opportunity.
A scrambling Chichester defense cleared the ball, only for it to fall back to Stu, the Portsmouth forward decided to be unselfish and played the ball to Wally who finally finished a near post tap in after so many identical chances through this season.

Luke Parsons swiftly returned the medical bag back to the dugout after realised Chesh had been taking drama lessons of Neymar and Micah Richards.
The carnage of the devastating injury wound down the timer and the umpire blew his whistle for full time.
