Strong performance by the Womens Pumas against Hamble 2s bring the team home with a draw. Written by: Emma Japes

The Portsmouth Ladies Pumas' plans for an efficient pre-match warm up were almost thwarted by Hamble traffic hold up. But not to be deterred, once arrived, Tegan Harris-Yates led the team in a squad warm up. The focused start made a real difference as they took to the field ready to work as one.

Full backs Amelia Eamer and Jessie Laird set out their stalls early, marking players out of the game.

The Pumas dominated the first half with some excellent runs from Brooke Savage, Freya South, Alba Browning and Ruby Savage. Nicky Roch and Mariella Seek held the centre midfield. The Pumas were eventually rewarded with a goal through sheer determination picking up rebound after rebound, it was Brooke Savage that finally managed to put the ball past the keeper.

A short corner in the Pumas favour after the half time whistle drew the whole team up to support but the Pumas couldn't convert.

The score was 1-0 to the Pumas at half time.

Once Brooke had retrieved her forgotten stick from the dugout, the Pumas were ready to go again. Hamble clearly had some strong half time oranges as they came out fighting. A break away player caught the Pumas snoozing and the score was 1-1.

The Pumas kept up the pace in the second half with some quick hit outs, with Browning ready to receive and drive the ball down the left with support from Seek and Roch.

Some strong, long hits earned Emma Japes the nickname 'sniper' as she picked out right midfield Freya South and forward Ruby Savage who capably carried the ball forwards.

Numerous saves from Jacs Kane kept the score level until Hamble got a lucky second goal from a short corner...deflected in by Emma's foot on the left post. Whilst heads might have dipped a little at this point, pocket rocket Ruby kept up the high work rate. A combination of an incredible Ruby runs, drawing the goalie, and finding perfectly positioned Tegan Harris-Yates on the p-spot, who confidently slotted the ball home to give the Pumas a 2-2 draw.
